Analyzing different cost structures
During our last class, we receive the recommendation to reconsider the way we provide our service in roder to create the most cost-advantageous business model. The focus of our business is the service that we provide to our customers, namely picking them up at their preferred location and taking them back home in their own car. We had focused on using electric, foldable scooters to dispatch our drivers to the respective location of the customer and to get them back to our base quickly.
However, we were told to focus on the pick up-service that we provide and analyze other transport options for our drivers. We came up with the usage of public transport, car-sharing or using own cars and compared the total costs we would expect for each service. Afterwards, we broke down the costs on costs/ minute to make them comparable:
This is the cost structure for using scooters:
For the usage of public transport during the day and scooters at night, when public transport doesn't offer a high coverage:
Additionally, we considered the option of car-sharing, however it is not very well developed in Lisbon and we would have to combine it with the usage of own cars:
Our final approach is the usage of cars only:
When comparing the costs, we can see that the approach with scooters is cheapest at 0,158€ per minute and we decided to use this transport option.
